During these holidays, the scenes are played out as usual except for some detail representing that holiday or event. Patrick's Day, Independence Day, Halloween, Christmas and New Year's Eve. Johnny Castaway includes Easter eggs for a number of United States holidays such as St. This includes The Incredible Machine and Hoyle Card Games. The screensaver program used to create Johnny Castaway was developed by Jeff Tunnell Productions.Īccording to Sierra On-Line president Ken Williams, the screensaver was one of several products by Dynamix that were not costly to create and yet very profitable for Sierra. Shawn Bird was working at Dynamix when he was asked to design a "weathered but likable" character for the new screensaver. Johnny Castaway was one of three projects (along with The Incredible Machine and Turbo Learning: Mega Math) that were started up in January 1992 by Jeff Tunnell with small group of people from Jeff Tunnell Productions, a spin off division of Dynamix. There are even repeated moments of Johnny coming close to being rescued, but will ultimately remain stranded as a result of an unfortunate accident or event. Johnny maybe visited by a Mermaid, Lilliputian Pirates, or a flock of seagull. Other rare events may occur as time passes by on the island. This includes collecting coconuts, fishing, creating a fire, building sand castles, constructing rafts, jogging, performing a rain dance, and other various activities. During Johnny's duration on the island, he will perform a series of actions to prolong his survival and sanity. The screensaver follows the story of Johnny Castaway, a man stranded on a very small island with only a single coconut palm tree.
